A History of Islâm

This course is a basic introductory course on 1400 years of Islamic history which follows on from the course on the Life of the Prophet (s). It aims to cover the significant events in Islamic history starting from the death of the Prophet (s) and the subsequent leadership of the Rightly Guided Caliphs.

It introduces the Ummayyad and Abbasid dynasties that followed and significant events that occurred during their reign such as the Crusades and the Tartar invasion. It highlights the important contribution and scientific progression of the Islamic civilisation during the Golden Ages. It continues through to the Ottoman Empire and its gradual demise touching upon other significant events including the Spanish Inquisition.
Significantly, it illustrates how Muslims have led the way in tolerance and justice throughout history and were a beacon of civilisation that helped create the modern society in which we live today.
